The Grey - opening analysis

The Grey - Opening Analysis

This is the beginning of the movie. It shows the title of the movie with no music yet, to give it an intense feel.

This screenshot shows an establishing shot to give a clear view of the setting to the audience. The environment is very dark, which may suggest negative thoughts, danger or intensity.

This screenshot is the next scene which is also another establishing shot, setting the scene. It is still very quiet at this point (audio wise) to create a dramatic feel.

In this screen shot it introduces the first character, and infact the main character (played by Liam Neeson). The camera is panning at an eye level angle to make the audience feel comfortable with the character.
As this scene opens up, there is people fighting, dark colours, and loud rock music playing,This creates quite an edgy feel for the viewer.
This scene shows a flashback, to inform the audience of the main character's past, and emotions towards his early life. It uses an over-shoulder shot to give it a feel of point of view (like your that character).
